Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound?
2D ultrasound provides the traditional black and white sonogram image of your unborn baby.
3D ultrasound is an actual three-dimensional photograph
of your baby, showing vivid details such as facial features and movements.
4D ultrasound is the live movement of the baby also known as real time.
Are 3d/4d ultrasounds safe?
Although there are no scientific studies proving any harmful effects of the baby to this date, limit the number of ultrasounds you have. Choose a facility you choose to get a 3d/4d ultrasounds that has technicians who have trained in a medical diagnostic ultrasound program.
Consult with your caregiver regarding any concerns you have about the safety of ultrasounds.
Will you be able to tell me the size of my baby?
Because this is an elective ultrasound, we do not measure.
Elective 3d/4d ultrasounds are strictly for your enjoyment. Prior to you having a 3d/4d ultrasound, you should be under the care of an ob-gyn, have had a full anatomical ultrasound and be receiving prenatal care.
How long does the ultrasound take?
It can take up to 30 minutes for the session. Keep in mind the baby is in control and will either be in an optimal position or not.
Will my insurance cover it?
No. Insurance companies do not cover elective ultrasounds. This service is an out of pocket expense.
What do I need to do to prepare for my 3d ultrasound session?
For a gender ultrasound, drink 24-32 ounces of water 45 minutes to an hour before your appointment time. Keeping yourself hydrated is very important. Drink water daily. Never substitute water for anything else. Drink 24 ounces of water and eat a light meal before your scheduled 3D/4D ultrasound appointment. You may also drink something sweet ahead of time too. Heavy meals will sometimes make the fetus lethargic.
When is the best time to get a 3d ultrasound?
The best time to get 3d ultrasounds is between 26-36 weeks. Any sooner the baby will look small and not have the greatest facial features. Ultrasounds done later than 36 weeks can be challenging but is possible to do if the fetus is in an optimal position and there's enough amniotic fluid near the fetal head.
How early can you determine a baby’s gender?
Gender can be determined as early as 13 weeks. Keep in mind some babies develop faster than others so you may want to wait until the fetus is at least 16 weeks or more.
Will my pictures look like the pictures on the website?
Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, placental location and mother’s body habitus. Because this is a special moment for you and your family, we make every effort to obtain the best possible images of your baby.
